Will documents hosted on file sharing sites create duplicate content?

Hi Everyone i want to know does google crawl & pdfs and documents hosted on <file and media sharing sites>. I want to know that if i upload my pdf on these sites will i get a benefit in my link building ?

I am not sure, but I would imagine Google would discount these links.

How is spreading a bunch of PDFs around the web each containing links back to your site any different than submitting an article with similar links to, say, Ezines, GoArticles, etc. and the article then getting republished on hundreds of sites around the web? In both cases, you're littering the web with duplicate content in an attempt to build unnatural links.

As aakk9999 said, I'm sure at a minimum these links are discounted or totally devalued if not treated like article submission links... in which case they "could" possibly even be considered a negative signal for a filter like Penguin, especially if those "file sharing sites" are low quality and/or irrelevant to you site.
