Hi what's the recommendation for titles of news articles and google serps?
I use "title of article: example.com - some more text about site"
Is that too long? Should I just use "title of article: example.com"
Your advice is appreciated much. Thanks!

I normally try to choose the title that best describes what the article is about.
Some people recommend choosing a title that will attract attention so as to get more clicks from the search results.
But Google will often change your title, sometimes in illogical ways.

I prefer that over including the "some other stuff about the site"

I am going to put the cart before the horse and say that if you are writing a news article, write an ARTICLE that will attract attention so as to get more clicks from the search results.
That way you will be able to come up with a title that is both accurate AND attractive to potential readers.
As the saying goes, "if you want a better photograph, put something more interesting in front of the camera."
If you want a better article title, have a better article.
Hope this helps.

Keep your news article Title short but should be descriptive and attractive. It is good to use targeted keyword in article title to get more traffic from search engines.

For branding purpose I would love to use example.com before. It is best when you are releasing news about company. When you are posting something related to industry then let it be at the end.

Are we talking about <title></title> which is what appears in the browser frame, or the actual title of the article? If <title>, best practice is 70 characters or less.

it really depends on the length of the title...
i mean, i have sections in my site with the title structure {section name}: {post title}
Which might be a good idea for a news section but then you have to either be carfull with the post title length or limit that input field so that it would help you to limit the title legth.
But in most cases i just go with the structure: {post title} - {short site name}
