Is it possible to check their mobile Serps on a desktop or does an app have to be installed on a mobile?
I used to have something like google.com/pda however this doesn't seem to work any more.
Or am I missing something simple?

Why not use the Adwords Preview webpage?

Ah, right, I never knew that existed!
That's useful but is there not a google.com/mobile or m.google.com/ that doesn't throw one straight to their apps page?
I always use Bing on my phone but I also use a Win8 OS, does this mean I'm going to have to download their app to a Xoom to test their Serps out?
That seems a bit OTT.

That's interesting. I just checked the Google Serps on my WIN8 mobile IE browser and its results almost mirrored the same results as my Xoom's Google search browser.
The one difference was that on the WIN8 one company had their m.example.co.uk site displayed but not on the Xoom.
Can I safely assume that these are the mobile Serps?

Whereabouts? I've gone through settings and tools etc and can't see anything.
Do I have to be signed in?

You would need to install Google's devtools to have this function be present in your browser. There's also plugins and extensions that you could add to your browser, but none of them seem to work as well as the solution in devtools.

Back in the day the best option I would use the opera web browser to see mobile versions, but I haven't used that in YEARS so I'm not sure if it still works.

Opera is my default browser however I can't find any settings in there or are you referring to Opera Mobile and Mini for phones and tablets?

How different are the mobile serps to the normal ones? Location obviously plays a part because mobiles move location and a desktop doesn't. If i block my location on my mobile i see no difference in mobile and normal serps.
As far as i can see there is, at the moment, no difference between mobile serps and others

That's what I assumed however recently a lot of people have been referring to the mobile serps and how to rank in them that's why I wondered if there is such a thing.
Certainly google.com/pda used to be a different set of serps plus they were ultra clean with no advertising and even faster than the regular serps.

@nomis5 There are differences. It depends on the search term for the severity.
Google is moving towards having very different mobile rankings. For example they have been warning of an algo update that bad mobile usability will drop sites in mobile rankings. This makes sense because a flash site or even a hard to navigate non-responsive site isn't going to make Google searchers happy.
