Tracking video results in Google search

Hi,

How do I track the performance of video search results?

When someone type in my brand related queries in Google search and navigate to the 'video' tab and click on my video results. This will not get attributed as a video organic visit right, but will only be available as traffic to that video embedded page?

Thanks!

I have just tried what you described on a site that embeds youtube and vimeo videos and on a site that hosts their own videos and the results are different.

For embedded youtube (or vimeo) videos, the SERPs link to video result goes directly to youtube (or vimeo) video page and not to the page that embeds the video. In this case you cannot track it via your site analytics and you will have to use whatever youtube (or vimeo) statistics you are provided.

If you host your own videos and embed them as object, then it seems that links on video tab SERPs go to the video embedding page. An example for this is bbc.co.uk. You can try this yourself - search for "bbc" and then click on "Video" tab and click to some of SERPs results.

Sorry to disagree. My youtube embedded videos are directly availale on the video results pages. It's a mix of both.

Still, can I know the following with the youtube statistics which I know very little about?
1. Query user searched to find the SERP embed page? (100% not provided)
2. Detail about the embed page that drive the click to youtube video?
3. Will the bounce rate be calculated for the embed page even if it's a video SERP result?!?

It looks like I'm not clear with my question.

Say, I only have self-hosted videos and embedding them to my website pages. When someone search for a query and navigate to the video tab in Google result page and there appear this video embedded link of mine with the video thumbnail.

Now if he clicks on it, the visit will get registered for the embedded page. But how do I know that they visit came through 'video tab' and it was a video result page visit?

Thanks again!

But how do I know that they visit came through 'video tab' and it was a video result page visit?

If it's an https search, you probably can't know. Otherwise there will be something in the referer.

:: detour to check ::

### those https searches anyway. Cross your fingers and hope a lot of your visitors still come from bing; they tend to give more information. In rare cases you'll find www.google.tld/video (or whatever the word is-- I'm looking at my own image logs). But good luck finding a search term.

Thanks @lucy24

I don't even bother about the search term. I just want to know how well the video embedded pages are performing in video search result page.

It looks like that's not possible :(
