According to Google's latest missive on Google Analytics, the new benchmarking capability will help research and improve your ability to compare sites.

The new Benchmarking reports display acquisition and engagement metrics — like sessions and bounce rate — by Channel, Location, or Device Category dimensions. To ensure total data transparency, the number of properties contributing to the benchmark is displayed once you choose the industry, market and size. A helpful heat map feature makes it easy to see areas of strength and opportunity, and where to devote more resources.

If you tally all the web properties that contributed to each benchmark across the size by daily sessions, then it puts a perspective on the daily average volume of sessions for websites that share their data with Google.

Here is a rough calculation for each session band.
Sessions per Day
0 - 100 86%
100 - 500 8%
500 - 1000 2%
1000 - 5000 2%
5000 - 10000 1%
10000 - 100000 .5%
100000+ .5%

In my mind it helps temper some of the volume and adsense claims made in different forums.

I agreed to the Data Processing Amendment about 4 days ago. Anyone else having issues seeing data or is normal for there to be a lag time from just recently opting in?

Adsensical, I'm curious.. Where did the calculation of the percentages in those session bands come from?

I tallied up all the properties that contributed to each benchmark for each category which I understand are the total number of websites that have shared their data with Google for that category. This figure can be found in the top right hand corner of the report page.

In the Analytics Benchmarking Channels Report it has a number of channels for which I do not know precisely what data is contained in them. My analytics report has never obtained a statistic for them and I would like anyone to clarify how the stats are obtained.

Google Analytics Help describes these as follows:

Display Interactions with a medium of "display", or "cpm". Also includes AdWords interactions with ad distribution network set to "content" but excluding ad format of "text".

I understand this to mean image and rich media ads with a cpc and image and rich media ads with cpm. It excludes all text ads with any payment method. Is this correct?

Other Advertising Sessions that are tagged with a medium of "cpc", "ppc", "cpm", "cpv", "cpa", "cpp", "content-text", "affiliate" (excluding Paid Search).

I understand this to mean any text ads of the different payments and any clicks from affiliate ads or placements.

Email Sessions that are tagged with a medium of "email".

Does this mean any links in emails as well as advertising contained in emails such as gmail?
