Google Disavow Tool: Is it a manual or automated process for Google?

if i use the google disavow tool in WMT, does google automatically ignore those links ( or ) does an actually person at google review the disavow request

i am pretty sure its algoritmic. but it could be use as a reference for manual process (if its a major major issue). i have read somewhere too that its automated.
