best practice for multiple internal links to the same page

I have 2 questions related to SEO that I really need answer soon:

1. Is it ok to have multiple links from the same page to a specific page? Ex. links from home page to "dresses" page, 1 link will come from hyperlink "dresses" and another link will be "sexy dresses" and another one will be "summer dresses"(all comes from home page and linked to the same page).

2. Is it good practice to have a "overview" page? Ex. if I have a category name "socks" and under this category I have 3 sub category's (women socks,men socks,kid socks). My question is, can I have general content about socks (include content about women,men and kids socks) in my "socks" page, and than have also similar (not same) content in each one of the sub category's pages? or it's better to don't have the general page "socks" at all.

Hi tomers, welcome to the forums. Look at the question from the user experience and you will usually have the best SEO answer. Multiple links to the same page with a variety of keywords won't make visitors happy and SE's can view it as spammy. If your links take people to a specific category they are helpful. There are times on info pages where multiple links to different sections of the same page are a good user experience.

If you have 3 separate categories and each has its own page, you can skip a "directory" type page - but it depends on how your site navigation presents those pages. If they only link through each other with one link to the first category, then it would be better to have a category Directory page. Think of the best way for visitors to find what they want on your site. Think about how you find things on your favorite sites - where things are organized and easy to find.
