New UK domain extension (google .uk)

i am interested in peoples thoughts on how to handle the new .uk extension for established sites. Moving forward i can see how people would expect the .uk extension and the .co.uk will start to look old fashioned, having the double dot in there. I was looking at how the big players are handling this, i.e. whether they move from the established .co.uk to the uk or have the .uk redirect to the current domain. What has suprised me is nobody seems to be using them at all. Notably typing in google with the .uk extension resolves to a dns error. Any thoughts?

Personally I'm tired of these new TLDs being marketed to us. This isn't for us - it's for whoever sells these new domains to make more money. I hope this one blows over too as the other ones have. I remember .biz as being one businesses HAD to register lest they be registered by someone else. It's simply another cost foisted onto businesses if you "have" to register both .co.uk and .uk.
