Hi All

I have a situation where google is taking weeks to index new content on a couple of very small sites, under 50 pages each.

The sites are under a year old , have a very few links from what you might call "authoritative" sites :) Naturally I have desisted from all link building activity.

Is this common nowadays?

Might one ask what the prevailing wisdom is ,

Advertise/promote more

Or

keep producing new content?

Sitmaps are submitted

Google is pinged from time to time

No robots.txt blocks

I have heard of G getting around to indexing sites on the same day and of people waiting two or three weeks. Its been like that for years.

From the number of posts you have made here I would guess that you are unlikely to have made any of the basic beginners mistakes like creating a home page without any textual content.

If it was my site I would be promoting it to get people coming direct.

I've never paid much attention to when a new page of mine was actually indexed but I currently work on the basis that it takes about three months for a new page to appear at its "final" position in the SERPS. Throughout that period I see them slowly work their way up from almost nowhere to their final resting place.

The sites have anywhere between 150 pages to a thousand. Within that range it appears to make no difference, always that 3 month or so lag.

Sometimes it can take even longer than three months for a site to begin generating noticeable traffic, or for a new section of an existing (and established) site to get more than minimal attention from Google.

Think long-term strategy, not short-term tactics, and be very, very patient.
