Is Googles Safe Browsing API suitable as SEO Tool?

Has anyone used Google's Safe Browsing API as SEO Tool to prevent accidental linking to phishing/malware sites?

This question is not about checking before a user clicks on a link, but about checking before deciding to place the link - and rechecking every so often that the site is still clean. And remove/not place the link if it's on the blacklist.

How often do you check? How many links do you check? Did you encounter any problems? How much resources does it take on your side? Any other things we should know?

In the past i used myWot API to check the domains of my links. It is not limited to only phising/malware sites. In my case i didn't want to link to adult websites.

I did run the check weekly, just a cron job in the background. It ran for a few hours. I did a sleep command between every x check to throttle cpu use.

Perhaps for SEO purpose it is better to use Google API. You have to see if there are any API usage limits.
