Hello everyone! Haven't been on here in awhile.

Just reading up on this whole thing about disavowing links and such and I went on Googles Webmaster tools to see what kind of links are going to my oldest site, built in 2003. I see tons of links, many that I did not know anything about and therefore did not request these sites linking to me.

When I go to google and do the link:example.com (my site name instead of course), it only shows THREE backlinks.

So, I'm unsure as to what all this means? How can I have hundreds, indeed thousands of links according to Googles Webmaster tools and yet it only show three backlinks? I have not ever done the disavow links thing as I just now learned about it.

If this question has been asked hundreds of times, please accept my apologies, but I did not see this exact question. Thanks for any help and info.

Welcome back!

The link: command has been buggy for a long time, I would not rely on it. WMT is your better bet, but even there you will not see all your links.

To get a better picture, you would really need to use a combination of WMT, MajesticSEO, AHREFS, OpenSiteExplorer...

Personally, I would not disavow if there is no problem in ranking but there are different opinions on this.
