My website has dropped several positions for no reason and is following an identicle pattern to the changes that occured in June last year. After 6 weeks everything returned to normal and I am hoping this will happen again, but quicker with a bit of luck. What I really need to know is which data centre is showing the latest result? or is this the million dollar question that no-one actually can answer?

I don't think it's a full blown update -- but it is a data center dance that looks something like the updates of old.

Instead I think this particular dance is Google working to get a handle on their new infrastructure and re-establish some data integrity for their index. All kinds of things are going on, sites vanishing, forums vanishing, no cache, old cache, crazy page counts, crawler troubles -- a scan through the last few days of forums topics will tell the tale. But it's not the tale of changing the ranking algorithm, it's the tale of a data integrity struggle.

That is definitely the million dollar question...Where are these SERP's coming from? I don't know if your talking about the 1st set that has been on DC's for about a month or the 2nd set of DC's that are now showing the set of SERP's that have been up for about 2 weeks or the mysterious 3rd set of SERP's that are showing up on Google and it's search partners randomly.

Hopefully by the end of the weekend we will know more about what is going on!

OK, just checked this one and got a number 1 position,
but is this a .com or a .uk data centre as they are all showing very different results. I personally am aiming at .com positions

I don't believe there will be 'one' datacenter to watch for new data. It appears that different dc's perform different tasks, and at some point they begin to merge. As for an update, i believe the updates of old are no longer with us... everflux may be the future.

I remember the Florida update. It hurt us a lot as we went from #1 spot to nowhere. But as you said that only lasted a bit. This new update has lasted so long and we are getting penalized for no reason. Please let it end.

Our site <snip> was ranked #1 with most of our targeted keywords. Now we barely even show up. We are not using any nepharious SEO tricks. What is up?

[72.14.203.99...] results are live in canada on .com, but not .ca interestingly enough.

Not that this is an update exactly (as per Tedster) but back in the days of updates Google used to roll out in Canada first (so it seemed).

It seems that what ever datacenter people find to their liking, others will find it just outright lousy as I do with IP's listed in this thread.

Until whatever is going on is done, we are all going to have to sit and wait.

I have got pretty much back on track with this 'update'. Pages which had vanished after being crawled are appearing in index since yeterday for me. Its not yet back to the 48-hour inclusion which I had seen before, but for me its been positive the last 2 days.

WOuld you be kind to mention the IP of your default Google? or are you seeing that on specific DCs?

I am noticing the same trend as wanderingmind here in Switzerland. After months my pages are going back into the index. The current traffic reflects that.

Furthermore - increased crawling. Nothing compared to what Yahoo sucks - but around 12k per day.

Something is definitely happening. My "usual" Google (and I don't know or care which DC it is) has been up and down like a toilet seat for the past week. My backlinks change from time to time too!

It really does appear to be an old time Google Dance. Yeah ... bring back the Google Dance! Now that was always fun to watch! In less than a week, it was over and so were the incredibly long threads where folks felt it was important to announce that their site was up or down.

Sigh ... the good old days! :)

I have been pretty much out of G for quite some time now.... definately before Bourbon...

What's fun for me now is when G does an update some of my sites see some small spurts of golden opportunities when my keywords are for some reason shot to the top of the list... for a short period of time. This is my only time though... but it's great fun when it happens!

If I was in charge of the time machine, I would rewind Google all the way back... actually, I would wind them back until they were actually.. (replaced by) Alta Vista. Those were happy times....for sure
