Hi all,

i have one question, which is much important for me, because i think my site is penalized since jul 2005. We also have no Pagerank-Bar on our Google-Directory site, like these last 3 sites on this Google Directory Page [google.com].

If you surf to one of these, you'll see a PR0 for all pages, except the homepage! On my site i also have this problem since jul 2005. There were many Page Rank updates since summer 2005, an no update corrected this circumstance!

What is the reason for loosing the PR? Linking to the wrong site(s)? Bad neighbourhood?
Onsite factors? Getting links by dirty sites?

Much thanks for your tips,

Greetings from Germany,
Bonneville

I've seen a couple of things that can make this happen, even without any foul play or spamminess.

Often there is some dynamic feature that allows several different urls to get the same "page" -- something like session IDs in the url, or clickpath tracking in the url. Over time, the index gets too loaded up with duplicates, quintuplicates, and worse and everything grinds to a halt on Google's back end to avoid an infinite information space.

The use of many parameters in a query string, especially if one of the is "id" can also scare away the Google gods. Then there's also the way anchor tags are coded (form inputs or javascript with no straight html link)

Those sites do show many pages on the site: query, so I assume they are getting some traffic no matter what the little green bar says.
