A friend added my site to his google analytics account so I could start tracking results. I've also applied for an account myself.
Once I finally get the invitation (which may be some time!)... does anyone know whether I'll be able to transfer in all the historical data from my friends account? And if so how?

you can export the data from your friends account, but i'm pretty sure you can't import it into the new account..
