Changed again since this morning. Still get very wierd results for this DC, but when I add &filter=0 all (and I do mean "ALL") of the old supplemental results (for 404 pages and expired domains) are thrown away.
Normal Google search: 1 to 15 of 15.
This DC with ordinary search: 1 to 12 of 40 000 (all wierd results - you CANNOT get beyond 12).
This DC with &filter=0 applied: 1 to 1 of 1 - the CORRECT result for this search term.

When your relatively new to this game and your learning everything from scratch there will be alot of sleepless nights. I have made alot of mistakes over the last 18 months so hopefully I have learnt from them (thanks to WW) so things "might" be a little easier from now on.
Anyway back to what his thread is about ...
Nothing significant on the ranking side - more of what is not appearing sometimes.
The allinurl operator works differently as well. EG if you do allinurl:www.red-widgets.com then it will look anywhere in the url for the seperated words rather than www.red-widgets.com joined up.
Ok well I am refering to the fact you are relying on search engine traffic to send traffic to your business.
You need to advertise in other ways..like working a forum in your niche, writing articles, blogging, classified ads, push offline to online..etc..
For what its worth, from say 1-3 weeks ago the Google Removal Tool seemed to be non-functioning (or operating with a very long delay). Within the past week it is confirming removes which may be a bit ominous as I "re-removed" pages that had been removed and confirmed between Oct and Feb but came back a few weeks ago.
Does this mean that the current BD index with long deleted pages (mostly listed as supplemental) that were gone from the mid-Feb index is now with us for good (or until the next update) and we have to actually remove again all those 404 pages? Relates to someones earlier comment that a topical article from 2002 is suddenly ranking #1.

This place usually humbles people: no matter how much you think you know there are always posters on here who know a lot more.
But every once in awhile you get posters who seem to know virtually nothing but post opinions and criticism with condescension and a totally unjustified certainty :)
Indeed - I posted some of my frustrations in the Datacenter watch thread (not sure why we have two threads running that are very much both on the same topic of Big Daddy) - I also posted at MCs blog regarding this but as it is a ranking thing then there was no/little chance of a response.
It is infuriating that this new index is supposed to me made up of a new crawl by Mozilla Googlebot but it still has all the problems of the old index as far as ranking for sites with hijack, canonical problems etc
Google - just break free from the old Crud that has ruined your index rather than keep on adding it back and seemingly rolling back to old rankings - what about the new rankings that Mozilla Googlebot should be generating?
I have just come back on most DCs for the phrase "widget reviews". I now see two sets of results for this phrase. In the second set of results I am lower - but I notice that a really good site about "digit reviews" has appeared (digit and widget are very related). Almost as if this second phrase's results have been "folded in" using Semantic relationships. This other site doesn't even appear in the top 1000 on the other DCs.

Yes, we went down on 12/27 and have seen very positive changes starting yesterday (3/29). I can't stress how skittish I am still. I keep checking the results on McDar and naturally Google to the point that Google will probably ban my IP soon. *cough*
From the McDar tool, many of the DC's are putting us back where we were before 12/27 with some of the DC's still in no-man's land (700+ positions).
We also seemed to have our "allinanchor" back in place to where it was before 12/27.
Lastly, when we do a "site:www.mysite.com" search, our index page (www.mysite.com) is the first result again. After 12/27, our index page was not showing in the first position. Rather some random lower level page. Which page that would be, however, seemed to change regularly.
I hope you and others are also starting to see some promising progress.

Whatever this 9/22 and 12/27 thing was, it was kept pretty quiet. I'm glad to hear others are rallying as well.
Lol - the index is still blighted with problems.
I am pleased of course that some people are seeing improvements. But "got it" all at once is no where near close :)
I was given some hope when I saw others reporting any hopeful signs and thought maybe it would help.
With our luck, it will all turn for the worse again tomorrow. I feel too damaged to have any confidence in it sticking.

But still plenty of situations where a site:www.domain.com check does not show the homepage first.
Where a "www.domain.com" check shows spam spam spam spam for 100s of pages and then the site in position 600-700 - sometimes even an internal page.
Where an allinurl search shows spam spam spam and then the correct site in last position with two entries - an internal followed by another internal.
Where a search for a unique company name shows spam spam spam spam then an internal page in position 600-700!
Google are yet to correct sites that have long term problems with the allocation of ranking and PR - eg internal pages having higher PR than homepages. EG Homepage PR0 while internals have PR.
It looks to me that Google are just flitting around between different sets of old ranking figures (and as PR is still there from them both then this could be possible) rather than fixing the problem. Especially if say site ordering is done by PR it could be fixed on one usage and broken on the other depending on whether it has been split or not.
Sometimes those give VERY different results.

My guess is that is becuase many people link to me as domainname.com, given that I have a very generic two name domain. Well done Google :)

Leave it until the morning, and last nights relevant #1 result may not be in the first 100.

I am a bit blunt at times.. and some others here seem to think that by reading my words they can tell my tone.
I try to help businesses become successful online, I do not promote Google dependency.
If others don't like that oh well... I am not here to be friends with anyone.
for a big search.....an affiliate link is top ten with an indented result...both pages are 164 kbs..and both pages are identical....duplicate filter anyone?
a quick look at the number of results being returned seems to indicate that filters are not being applied currently...
Also experiment with &num=100 and &filter=0 on the end of the search URL as that can trigger completely different results too.
If you have a search up, hit "Reload" and observe that you often get a different results set yet again, even though it is coming from the same IP as the last one.
I have clients who rank on page 1 2 3 for the same keyword term..
That doesn't seem too different from what I see of other sites most larger than my clients.
