Google showing old and new version of site?

why won't it just show updated version only?

Hi. My site was recently updated with a new look along with optimization.
When I do a search for my main keyword phrase in Google, both the new version of a page on my site shows up and a second listing showing my old page.
The URLs are exactly the same, so why is Google leaving the old cached version indexed in addition to the new cached version?
Do I just wait this out?

You have a regular result, and then an indented result, and both are the exact same url on different days? No differences in a query string parameter, for instance? If so, I doubt that this is anything they really intend to do.

Actually, I failed to see a minor change in the URL. One word was spelled wrong in the updated version of that page. Therefore, the new page did not overwrite the old page. We are working to get that corrected right away (to avoid duplicate content)!
Hopefully once the correction is made the old page will be filtered out of Google.
