Optimizing for Google Video

how does Google decide what appears in main serps?

Since Google has released videos in the main SERPs, does anyone have any strong knowledge on optimizing videos so they are included? Example, Google "Martin Luther King".

Not in detail; but you may be sure that on page factors around the video are the key items; title and <title> probably matter a lot.

What I find most interesting is that Youtube videos show up but I have yet to see any "Google Video" videos showing up. Anybody got an idea why?

One of the commonly overlooked areas of video optimization is the embedded meta data. If it's there, it looks to me like it can be helpful. But right now, it's often not there in many online files -- or if it is there, it's really crazy. It's common to see default choices from when the software was first installed.

This gets even more complex if you use several apps to generate the final file in its online format. Meta data embedded by one video editing application may well be wiped out or overwritten when you go from, say, an mp4 file to an flv.

It's something like embedded meta data in a pdf file, which is often wonky but when it's accurate it helps.

Take a look at the Top 100 list at Google Video and then search for the title of any of them on Google search... You should see them appear in the SERPs then. Some that are popular on multiple sites like Google Video, YouTube, Myspace, etc. show several thumbnail images on the first page of the search results.

I have videos in the top video serps now. The one I just found has a 4 star rating. Next one also 4 stars. For a 3 words term you have 4 1/2 Youtube 3 1/2 Google and 4 Youtube as tp 3 hits. But I found others that have 1 star ranked before 5 star on more than one user.

My Google videos show up too.

Has anyone seen the Google video stock footage spammers in the video serps. They were sooo annoying, turned me off G video.

I would think having text above/below the embedded video may also help.

Question: why doesnt YouTube show up first on SERP for Cool Videos/Funny Videos/Interesting Videos? Any ideas?

I have only seen video's on YouTube, Google Videos & MySpace Videos in the SERPS... Do you really think Google is going to break out of the box and throwing videos from random sites?

You know what, I found a site that came up not related to a Google owned web site...
