Sudden change of domain name and back links bad for PR?

I am planning to change my domain name. The old domain name has about five dmoz links to it, but only one page had a PR of about 1. I think this is due to unwise interlinking and white text on colored background. I am planning on doing a 301 from the old domain to the new domain and imagine the dmoz links will update quickly enough. My concern is that my new domain might have a sudden page rank of 4 and that google will penalize me for this. I reliaze I am just missing the start of a new PR update, so this might minimize the risk slightly? Thoughts welcome.

1. A new domain name starts over with Google -- beware the dreaded "sandbox effect"

2. Five DMOZ links is a strong asset -- I would stick with the old domain and clean it up where needed

3. PR is not affected by on-page factors such as text color -- it's all about links and links only

4. Unwise interlinking? -- remove bad outbound links and minimize/eliminate any other inbounds from domains you control

5. A PR update is just for the visible toolbar PR -- it does not represent what Google really sees behind the scenes which is updated continually. The timing of this "PR update" will not affect you.

6. Suggestion -- relax about PR and focus on traffic
