I'm looking at buying a website about widgets. The site has little traffic but a bit of content.
However the content is official reviews of widgets by the specific widget manufacturer. The content of this review is available on the manufacturer's website. All the current owner of the website has done is put a large number of widget manufacturer's reviews in one location. The site gives credit to the original source of the review.
If I attempted to optimise the site (assuming I bought it), would I be beating my head against a brick wall as Google would give it a dup content penalty?
Cheers JB
For Content Duplication Issue..Do we have seen many websites penalize because of duplicate content (I guess Duplicate content filter is there for webmasters who just create websites, copied the content from somewhere only because of Adsense Revenue)? A good practice is to just modify the content, put your thoughts into it (keeping in mind it won't affect the theme of the information)..and then you can give a credit of original source. That will be my suggestion to you. Content Presentation is also very important.
