How will I get Google to index my new site?

I am now at this. But I am interested in what I have read about Google indexing a new site. I have a site that came live middle of January, but I do not know where or how to get Google to index my site. I probably am posting this in the wrong forum, so please excuse my being a neophyte in this arena. I do want to learn and will appreaciate help from the pros.

The quickest way to get your site index would be to have a link on another site that is already in the Google index. Your next option would be to submit your URL to Google and wait.

Other than getting at least one link, the key is to wait, and wait . . .

The more links you have to different internal pages, the quicker it will go. Doing a google sitemap will also help with a brand new site, but it isn't a magic bullet.

My general rule is that in the first month I will get every page that has an external link into the index. The next month I will get all the pages that are one click away from those pages, the third month google will get them all.

BigDave, interesting thoughts on your expectations of being indexed. A few questions for you. Do you think Google has become slower at indexing sites? In the past, did you expect sites to get indexed more quickly?

One really doesn't have to submit new sites anymore. Google is registered as a domain registrar so they are aware of all the new domains that are registered, and will automatically include them in their crawl if there is a site on it. I have had two sites indexed in this manner.

Things pretty much run at or near the same speed that they always have. Back when there were monthly updates it ran at about the same speed as it does now, unless you were able to pick up a PR7+ link or something.

There are lots of things that you can do with the hopes of speeding it up, and sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. There are often posts about how to *make* google index your site, and the answer is that you can't make them do anything, but you can encourage them.

What I was saying was what my basic expectations are. If it goes faster, that's great. That is how long I plan on it taking and I just won't sweat it for at least 4 months. You may do something that makes the Google Gods happy, and they crawl your site in a day and you are ranking for money terms the next, just don't plan on it.

manually submit the URL of the external page that contains the link to your website. That is better and somewhat quicker than only submitting your new website.
