Google Sitemaps: sitemaps.xml -- do I retain my old sitemap.html?

I have submitted my first Google sitemap and in my Google sitemap account under the heading 'Sitemap status' it says 'OK' Do I take that to mean that it is formulated correctly with no errors as far as Google is concerned?

The Google sitemap is titled sitemap.xml and I still have my old original sitemap.html on the website. Is this alright for it to remain there or do I need to take it off?

Regards,

Barry

Yes, the message means that sitemaps.xml is error free. And yes, I'd say keep your old sitemap.html -- strange as it seems sometimes, there are other search engines crawling the web and it will help you there.

And the users too. The average Joe surfer does not know about and understand sitemap.xml. So you have to retain the sitemap web page for them.
