I saw Google Book Search for the first time tonight on Google as well as results within results. I searched for one key word and after the first 3 results, a 2 word phrase was suggested with 3 results from that query, then another horizontal rule and the rest(last 4) of the results from my one word search. Then at the bottom of the page, "try your search again on Google Book Search". This is all new to me! Have I been living with my head in the sand?

Well, these features are relatively new -- experiments being done on a trial basis over the past few months. They have all been mentioned here from time to time.

The split results can come up if the search keywords have more than one possible meaning. Google's semantic processing, uncovering user-intent and so on, is coming into its own.

Thank you for mentioning this. I couldn't figure out why I only saw it under a search for a certain word but no other searches that I tried. I see now, the word I was searching for can have totally different meanings. BTW, Google did suggest the correct meaning that I intended to search for and I don't use those personalized serps.

Added: Since I first heard about latent semantic indexing, I've been waiting to see something change!
