When I check the number of pages indexed for the whole web it shows 110,000+ and for the UK it shows less than 1000.
Strangely enough the pages that show on the UK are all from a certain sub dir of the site, plus the home page and that is about it.
We do use the Google Sitemaps also which we have been since they were first launched to be honest, but this is a recent downturn in indexed pages.
So, what's happening is Google is not seeing your site as a UK site, for some reason.
I'd check the IP again if I were you, it's not as exact as you might imagine. I have seen some domain registrars with a non UK IP affecting the serps.
On a related note - I have a .com site hoted in Canada which I now realise was a mistake. We rank well on general web searches (g.com and y.com) but really badly on g.co.uk (country specific search) which is a country that our products are highly relevant for (say 60/70% of potential business). I'm considering moving to a UK host. In your view:
* will this adversely affect my good g.com and y.com rankings?
* should I be changing to a .co.uk domain?
Thanks
