I have PR8 - or do I?

A domain of mine was PR4 until very recently. Now suddenly it's PR8. Except I think it's not.

Toolbar says it's PR8 but link:mydomain shows backlinks allocated to my domain are in fact linking to another (completely unconnected in every way) website. Looks like Google is - for some reason - giving my website 'credit' for those backlinks which are linking to another site.

Weird, huh? Anyone seen this before? Is my site PR8 then or PR4? Should I take advantage of this by linking out from the PR8 index page to my other sites or is it just a PR4 page with a busted toolbar 'score' :)?

Last year, I registered a brand new domain. While I was working on the site, I noticed that it has a PR5. Even before I uploaded an index page. And after the index page indexed by G, the PR rose to 6. There were a lot of nonexistent backlinks as well as displayed by Google.

The toolbar (as well as PR check tools) showed a PR7 until the next PR update.

I reported it here where such anomalies were discussed:
