Google Image update

Google image has been updated today, that often leads to a new real update, but thats not the topic here, any here want to discuss the ranking of google image, I think its pure shuffle, I just cant get any logic to it.

i have been trying to target image search myself, just to test the potential.

the biggest gotcha i've seen is that it takes an awfully long time to get indexed, even with all of the image search database updating that google has been doing over the last couple of months.

i have several really old white hat sites that are really small, and they have practically fallen off of the google search map... practically no traffic at all... but the opposite is happening with image search, i'm getting enuf traffic to make up for the other losses... really bizarre.

no question in my mind that the name of the image file is the single most important factor, but other things just don't stack up... sometimes the image gets found under the page name :-/

I wish google's regular search treated my site as well as google images does. That is practically all my traffic from google. I just put these new images up about four months ago. Each being labeled as exactly what they are such as : green-widget.jpg and google loves them.
In fact I have one product page that has been dropped from google's index altogether....don't know why...but I am #1 in images on that product pic. go figure.
