I think they'll become #1 within a year. Look, they even kicked yahoo today in terms of visitors (Y had more page views today, so that's why they are #1).

Does anyone know how reliable Alexa is in visitor count? Do they track unique IP's per day or sessions within a cerain timeframe?

This this because Google's popularity and visitors are divided among various country domains.

Take a look at Google.com, it's rank 3, Google.com.ph is rank 1683, google.co.uk is rank 18, and soon. If there is only one domain for Google, then it is a sure solid number 1 in Alexa.

I think i'm right in saying Alexa gets it's information from it's own toolbars?

In which case this is hardly a big enough sample of information to represent a true snapshot of the industry as most google users will have surely installed a google toolbar?

It's the largest sample I have to pull information from, so I'll admit that I use Alexa semi-frequently.

G was at number 2 last night - and to whoever mentioned the subdomains, yes that would be an excellent feature if they could allow for all subdomains to be counted under the main domain.

yea, they only get data through their toolbar, so my net behavior is not included. hope yours is not as well.... just uninstall alexa toolbar to keep your browsing habits private

Alexa also gets data by crawling webpages.

To give an example, they crawled my website intensively yesterday, and the PR for the homepage, which is the only one I checked, has increased today by 100% or so. [The lower the number, the better the ranking.]

ps: I forgot to mention I don't have the Alexa toolbar!
