Identical meta description and meta keywords

Hi all,

I have about one hundred pages on my site that have identical meta description and meta keywords tags. However, the content and title are unique for each page.
Is there any chance that Google might see these pages as duplicate content because of the identical meta keywords and description tags?

Hi malasorte,

If the content of each page is unique, then you will have absolutely no problem. I have several websites that have identical meta-description and meta-keywords and they have no problem getting high placements on Google.

For the user tho, each description should be unique to that page. Does a blanket description fit? If so, okay. But how much trouble would it be to use unique description of each page instead of just one for the whole site.

IMO the thread you linked to has no direct relationship with duplicate content. I have 50+ websites that share the same meta-keywords and meta-descriptions without facing any duplicate content or supplemental penalty from Google; in fact most of them enjoy top rankings.

I do agree that having custom meta-tags is a plus from an SEO perspective but I do not think that Google might ever see these pages (with unique content of course!) as duplicate.

i have 100K of such pages. same keyword meta, description meta different title and content, running the same template of page. the pages are since 1994 till today, spanning 12 years,,,,some of the older pages are at pr6 at the most the rest are 5-2, non are being rejected nor suffering....it brought me to think that google has dropped the keyword meta whatsoever....

mmmm... we seem to be in somewhat of a disagreement. I can only tell you from experience that I had many pages that were url only or supplimental. Most of these were forum pages. Most were URL only for at least a year. Some were supplimental. I was reading some posts about the benefits of have different decsriptions on each page and it struck me that the the forum pages were all templated with the same description and keywords. I added a database call and stuck it on the front of the description tag and did the same for the keywords. Within a month, most all the pages started popping up in the index with their title and description. This happened a couple of months ago. I now have gone back to some of my other sites and have done the same with somewhat of the same results. Now I know some of you are gonna say that it was just a fluke, but this is the way I am going to do it from now on and what is the drawback? Anyway... I think the proof is in the pudding.
