Online search engine leader Google Inc. will begin giving some musical artists the star treatment by spotlighting links to their songs, lyrics and other related material at the top of the results page. The music section, scheduled to debut Thursday, is designed to provide a more direct route to the content that most music fans want to see when they inquire about a singer or band, said Marissa Mayer, Google's director of Web products. "We are addressing a deficiency in our Web search," she said.

How long before they sell this spot ..
This makes first in serp appear to be the only relevant item in "G's" eyes ...
Commiserations to anyone at # 2 or below ..
If they roll this approach out to other topics the serps are gonna be #1 ( eventually as a paid for? ) or nothing ..
I have affiliate links in my site to sell CDs and such to support my site. It looks like Google is trying to kick my legs out from under me. Is it really Google's intention to eventually kill off all content sites?

Glad I'm not trying make a living as an affiliate in the music space...
I'm not trying to make a living at it. I'm just trying to cover the costs of my server. But this latest move from Google will make that very difficult.
C'mon Google ... move that fake search result into the ads area or mark it somehow so it doesn't look like a real search result.
