Our site was unavailable for 48 hours, and disappointingly found that many of our deep links in google (which ranked fairly well), are now nowhere to be found. any experiences/thoughts as to how long it will take to return?

48 hours seems much too quick for url removal, in my experience. I would assume that the pages have gone missing are more likely due to another cause, and the timing was just coincidental.

Are the pages in question still returned on a site: command?

thanks for the tip; our site has about 3 levels of pages (1st level is index page and main navs, 2nd level is subcats, and 3rd is product-type pages); all the 3rd level pages are gone. 1st and 2nd level still the in the index, but ranking worse. yikes; seems like google is quick to penalize these days. hope its just as quick in re-finding and re-indexing.

If your site was down for 48 hours then you have a much more serious problem than temporary flucs with google. That is unacceptable and you need a new host. Or some kind of better plan.
