Partial Sitemaps

Is there any harm in creating a Sitemap for only part of a site?

I have a static site with about 100 pages, and all have been indexed by Google for a long time. There is one section of the site that does get updated by me almost daily, while most others are permanent "reference" pages. I'm trying to figure out if it would be useful to use Google Sitemaps to "push" the daily page into the Google index more reliably (it gets indexed, but perhaps only once a week; for that section I'd like to have it done more often).

My question: Can I create a Google Sitemap file that includes just the small section that needs more attention? I've read through the Google instructions till my eyes glazed over, but couldn't find any mention of partial sitemaps. I suppose I could go through and generate something for all the other sections, but it seems like a waste of effort since they are doing fine. If I create only a partial sitemap, does anyone know if that will cause the rest of the site to be ignored somehow? (Maybe WebmasterWorld needs a SitemapsAdvisor...)
