Hey,

I've updated my google sitemap, and click on the errors tab, and it lists a bunch of my urls that it's trying to spider, but can't.Problem is, they don't exist, and I checked my entire site (and sitemap) for the urls that it mentions, and there is nothing there. I don't have any links pointing to those URLs, and they don't exist.

Why is Google trying to spider these urls when there is no reference to them anywhere that I can see? Will this effect my rankings in google if there are these stupid errors?

Thanks

brian

The errors listed in the SiteMap interface are not limited to URLs in your SiteMap.xml file. Google is just showing a list of URLs that it has tried to crawl but unable to. If the URL is followed by "SITEMAP" in small green letters, then it is in your SiteMap.xml file. Otherwise Google found it somewhere on the Web.

So these are external links from other sites if they are not on my site, and not in my sitemap.xml?

I'm assuming then that I won't get penalized for this then, at least hopefully.

Thanks for the reply.
