Here's a strange one...I created a demo site with OSCommerce for someone and populated it with a bunch of products. As it is a demo site I did not link to it or submit it anywhere.

Over the weekend I received an order from the site. I quickly contacted the customer as I have no interest in selling those products right now. However, it did get me curious - how did the guy find the site?

I did a seach in Google for domainName.com. All of the product pages were indexed and a domain name registrar's txt file showed up in the SERPS. When I went ot that txt file I see the domainName (without the .com) listed as a newly registered domain. Could Google be getting information from domain registrars?

The only other thing I can think of is the Google Toolbar or Desktop Search that I have installed.

Any ideas?

That would explain it.

Funny thing is we have "Welcome to DOMAINNAME Test Site" at the top yet the guy bought anyway.

No kidding - what are the odds of converting on accident.
