Will creating a sitemap downgrade non-mapped pages?

How bad is it to upload my existing RSS?

My content management system already knows how to generate RSS for my site, and does. When I write a new article, it auto updates the RSS. This RSS, though, only includes new *articles* I wrote, other pages on my site--static pages, my main entry page--aren't in this RSS file.

Would it hurt me or help me to throw this RSS into Google as a sitemap? Or would the missing pages suffer loss of ranking in Google's index by their omission?

It shouldn't hurt you as I read it. Just gives you a chance to get more pages in faster (especially ones that dont have a lot of IBL).
