Hi everyone.

First off..

Great site.. Contains lots of info which shows lots of different sides of the experiences posted!

My question is rather humble and newbieish. Ive been working on a new site for some weeks now, and have finally put it online. Ive added it to all major search engines. This i did saturday. But still it does not show on on any search i make on any of the engines.. not even if i make a direct url search!

My simple question is.. how long does it take before a submitted site gets crawled and indexed?

I don't think you have "added" it to the search engines. You may have added it to their list of new sites to be crawled but it looks like you are not in their indices yet. This can take a while using this method. You have posted this in the Google forum so I will assume that we are talking mainly about Google.

What you must do first off is get inbound links to your site. By inbound links I mean that you must have other sites (that are already indexed by Google) linking to your new site. The Google bot will follow these links and find your site automatically. You should also consider submitting to DMOZ and some of the other reputable directories. These will give you the inbounds you need to get going.

The bad news is you will almost certainly be placed in the sandbox by Google (search for it). This means that your site is unlikely to get any traffic for up to a year or even more.

The bad news is that the only way to guarantee traffic nowadays is to pay for it through Adwords or some other similar scheme.
