I wanted to see if a new PDF file had been cached by Google yet. I entered the full URL of the file into the search box and searched.

Google returned a page that showed the URL but without a title and snippet. That's an improvement on a few days ago, when it merely said "Sorry, no information is available for the URL www.....".

I thought I would click on the "cached" link and see what they had saved so far. When I did, the browser popped up a little box that said:

"The file "search" is of type "google/empty" and Mozilla does not know how to handle this file type. The file is located at: [66.249.99.99...] What should mozilla do with this file? - Open - Always Open - Save to Disk...".

Is this a valid way of using MIME types, or a kludge? It did stop me from saving a completely empty file though...
