The site does well in msn and yahoo but gets nothing from google.
If i search for site:www.example.com.au "widgets" it only ever brings up the meta description in googles description even though there is content matches on page.
if I search for site:www.example.com "widgets" it shows the google description as expected (text around the keyword on page).
from my investigation it seems that the .com.au is penalised.
My question is that if i remove the pages from .com , put no index no follow in robots.txt and use the url removal tool will this solve a duplication issue?
For instance, we had a domain folder we wanted to move to a new domain. We used the URL removal tool for this folder on the main domain. We received an email from Google that they had received the request, and it would take a couple of weeks for it to stop showing in the serps. However, they also said their would be problems because of the backlinks.
Okay so we got the new domain running, and it was sandboxed ASAP and didn't surface for 8 months. We tried to contact everyone that had links to us, but most of the sites and emails were dead. So, no luck.
We went on a new link building surge to related sites, and that is probably what got us out of the sandbox.
We didn't use redirects and we didn't use robot.txt, we just let the old pages 404.
It's now been a year and a half and the domain is finally getting ranked where the old one was before. It was certainly a mess, and to this day I still find in the logs, people trying to find those old pages.
I don't know if this helps you but, it's hard to figure out what will happen anymore with G.
