Looks like Google has updated directory

I think I'm seeing some new listings in the Google directory. Maybe someone who keeps closer track than I do could verify it.

Looks like an update is coming. I acquired a new entry in DMOZ a few weeks ago. It shows up in searches but is not yet listed when viewing the category. Experience tells me this paradox can last for weeks but an update is coming (or has started) probably slowly and a bit at a time - I never bothered to look closely at this.

AFAICT, the current Google directory contains some data added after July 1, but does not contain other data added before September 1. That may give you an indication of how "current" the listings are.

Kaled: the OP inquires about Google's version of the ODP directory, not ODP itself. And yes, the behavior you describe is somewhat common: the ODP directory and the search function are not perfectly "synchronized".

Not sure exactly what you mean. The ODP search is, from time to time, utterly hopeless. I used directory.google.com and searched from there. The new entry was listed in the search but not in the category. This tells me that Google either searches the ODP (but I don't think so) or it searches a version of it own directory that is not yet visible. It could be a data-center synchronisation issue but the paradox tends to last too long so I guess they are building a new copy and will publish it eventually.

Having said that, I can offer no explanation as to why it would take so long to build a new copy or to publish it once they have built it - makes no sense to me whatsoever (unless they do some manual editing).

DMOZ makes a rdf dump availible once a week.

It is this dump that is the basis for Google's directory.

As for how often Google does its directory update you'll have to ask GoogleGuy.

I've never paid any attention to it.
