odd links under 1st listing

HI All,

I just did a search and saw this under the top result.
all are links. the scotland takes you into the sites scotland sections and likewise for the england one. Media information takes you to that page and the same for agency info.

has anyone else notcied this, and could this be a manual thing maybe?

yep google is playing with the results again. Actually it was good. I was looking for "buy land" and the links underneath were, UK, US. So it saved me one click

I have seen this new type of return in Google also.
It looks to me as if it is a much cleaner way to display multiple returns for a large site.

i.e. the old way was to have position #1 as the index page, followed by the #2 result indented showing a deep page and the "More results from"

Now, the #1 site is actually taking up less room AND giving the user more choices.

I really like this format. Thumbs up Google.

By the way, the absolute best example I have seen of this new format is to search Google for WebmasterWorld

This type of result is in fact just progressing leaders in the fields lead. They have one result in the top 10 whats the point of giving them 4 more?

If I want some information my searchs are presise enough to bring up the exact content. Why would someone search for widgets when there are infact looking for a blue widget holder with a green stand?

Seems to me it displays the extra links of a top site for only popular phrases.. That's how I see it for our site (not really large) - only the most popular keyword phrase gets these extra links, or at least I didn't notice it for other keywords..

IOW, below the listing there are additional links to various subareas of the site.

Same for other #1 listings ie. cnn.com, whitehouse.gov ...

So Google uses the link text of (some) main navigation links and rebuilds the links. Cool.
