problem, GOOGLE requires verify sitemap

Google reevaluated its algorithym around 29/08/05 and dropped my site from its listings. Suposivly doorway pages caused them to drop me . i rectifyed this and also put a google sitemap on my server for www.paragonhandyman.co.uk.

GOOGLE recrawled, all is ok and ask me to verify by loading the folowing empty file to the server

all is done and GOOGLE now says it cant verify because:

Weve detected that your 404 (file not found) error page returns a status of 200 (OK) in the header.

so how do i get the error page to return 404
