How big is your home page?
For a long time, Google has put a limit on the size of the cache at 101K (that's HTML, not including images). Most people accept that the remainder of the page is still parsed for links.
Some now say that this limit is relaxed on some or all sites.
One other likely reason for the truncated cache is that your HTML is wrong. Browsers spend a long time silently correcting HTML errors to display the page as well as possible. Search engine bots fly by and if it's wrong they may well discard it. Try the W3C validator on your homepage and correct any and all errors it flags up.
Let's hope other members will add to (or contradict!) what I've just said...
