Difference in indexing with http:// and www.

Why would Google show different number of pages indexed

Hi,

Presently i am working on a site which has its pages indexed in google.

when i search with "www" to the domian name it shows only 2 pages as indexed, whereas when i querry with only "http" its showing more than 70,000 pages.

What could be the reason. could any please explain.
how to overcome it and like, what to do, if we want both the results to be same.
