Drop in traffic last week?

Any particular reason for this?

We have seen a 15% drop in traffic last week accross our network of websites - anyone else notice a drop in traffic or know any particular issues that might be causing this?

I didn't notice any change. You might want to check your referring sites and keywords to help you better identify what is no longer driving traffic.

It could be because half of the UK Population are on holiday! If your sites are non travel related this may expalin the drop.

I agree with Gary anyone in the UK will be heading for some cheap sun, I would be doing the same if I wasn't tied to this box! I normally see a drop in August and it builds back up once the kids go back to school

That could be the answer - but I think its more to do with the fact that my site has dropped down the G rankings by about 30 places - but is now oddly fluctuating in the early 30's to 50's in the SERPS - really odd! Anyone what to try give an explaination for that?

We are seeing that figure on one site only. My main site is consistent with what I would expect, and neither site has had a reduction in ranking on any keywords.

The difference in the two sites is this:

One this is becoming peak market at this time of the year. The other, peak season is off a couple months yet. So, any loss in share of market of Google, or traffic in general, is offset by the growth of the site that is becoming peak. Where the non-peak site, would see the decline.

Having said that, I see no share of market loss for any search engine, on any site. They are all steady at this time.

Also, it has been very hot in the USA. More people at pool side, beaches, and sitting in air conditioned malls. As well, we are in back to school shopping mode here. That has something to do with it. It is close enough now to back to school, that orders online will begin to taper off, as shoppers want the purchases to arrive before kids go back to school. Only 'same day/next day' shipping sites will get heavy orders now.

Janethuggard- absolutely. We are worried more about sneakers and jeans than anything else right now. So is 75% of America.

The truth is that we can only guess and suggest, but only GoogleGuy can bring us a qualified answer. And it seems that GG is still on vacation ;-)

And here is my guess. We are just about to witness another reshuffling either this weekend or the weekend after. Because I have noticed that whenever Googlebot get more active than usual on my own site, an update or reshuffling follow. But I might be mistaken of course ;-)
