I think Google are Beta testing a new feature.

Earlier I was looking for information on how to play a .mov file on Google. So i searching for .mov into Google. Google Search for .mov [google.com]

After five results, there was a break in the page and the following...

Dissatisfied? See results for: quicktime [google.com]

It followed with the top three natural results for QuickTime amongst the results for .mov.

Has anyone else seen this? I'm struggling to find any other examples.

Is this a Feature or a Flaw?

Looks like a feature to me. Good find. Interesting that neither of the two searches bring up any ads. I wonder if that is a factor somehow.

Good find irldonalb. So this new feature is going to be called as revisions_inline :)

Just wondering if it is a good idea for Google to insert those 3 listings at the cost of 3 webpages for the actual search query. May be those 3 pages could have been placed somewhere on the right side if they are not going to show Adwords.

Strange, if you change language (b.e. change hl=en in hl=nl (dutch)) you get 'normal' result page with 10's of pages results on .mov

I've been seeing this off and on for the past few weeks. I think it's a great feature for people who don't know how to make a correct search.

I've had a think about this and I’m not too keen on it.

Yahoo has a nice feature that when you type in a broad phrase they give you more exact phrases.

For example when you type in 'London widgets, they suggest phrases like 'cheap London widgets, 'central London widgets ' etc.

This does two things.
1. Helps the user get more targeted results
2. Drives traffic to smaller, more specific websites.

But what Google are doing is the complete opposite. It has the potential to let larger websites appear on more niche phrases.
