Linking to Duplicate Content

Is this a problem in Google?

I have a client who is an authorized agent for <widget merchant>. His website contains all duplicate content, provided by <widget merchant>, and he is not allowed to add content they do not authorize.

Will it harm me to link to his site? I have had this concern before, with eCommerce sites that use product descriptions from the manufacturer. Do I need to fear linking to these sites?
