We purchased a link on a popular site and they still have us up however I couldnt find the link today. I checked the source of the page and found our link is there but is "commmented out" - Does anyone know how Google or other crawlers treat this? I recieved a Google alert yesterday showing another link had been detected from this site so I am assuming Google still indexes commented out links - Is that right? or do they devalue those links?
Thanks

I think it's generally accepted wisdom that if there is an HTML comment, it is ignored. It is, after all, a comment.
I don't think any Search Engine will read a comment and try to pretend that the comment is a link, and less still that it would process it. What on earth would be the point of that? DerekH

You must not use Accessibility features for visually impaired for SEO. I hope this is something Google will help with and even go as far as to filter out ALT tags on none linking images.

talismon, Have you contacted them to ask the status of the paid link? If so what was the reason given for the commenting out.
