Are 100 links enough to gain PR?

Well, say, 100 links from different sites ranging from 0-6 PR is enough for a brand new site to gain a PR after the next update? Or should it be doubled in number?

The PageRank you get depends on the PageRank of the pages that link to you (and on the number of links on those pages, but that makes little difference).

So 100 links from PR0 and 1 pages would normally give you PR0 to 2, while 100 links from PR4 or 5 pages would normally give PR4 to 6.

PR doesn't show up in the toolbar for a long time so that's not a terribly helpful gauge.

Toolbar PR is the same as any other PR that is being displayed. But it is not the same as actual PR. Actual PR is your current, calculated often Page Rank that Google uses when ranking your page(s). That's the only PR that really matters, but there's not way (that I have heard of at least) to find out what your actual PR is. All you can do is wait around for a Toolbar update to find out what your PR used to be :)

You can get to PR3 or PR4 with just 20-30 links, if you're patient enough to be discriminating about where you get those links. Focus on related sites where the actual page that your link will be placed has PR3 or higher AND has fewer than 50 other links (total, including internal links). It takes longer than just linking with anyone out there, but it works.

one of my sites has only 10 inbounds (natural and strong) and it has a PR5. millions of sites out there with 100's of IBL's and still have a PR on the low end of the scale.

concentrate on a few on-theme quality PR links to get you going in the right direction. time spent on quantity will be a waste of time.

Besides the scrappers will provide all kinds and manners of links to you.

Some will be totaly useless and others will last for just a short time till the linking site goes belly up.

You can also give your main pages a PR boost with a smart internal linking strategy. Make sure every internal page has a link back to your main pages (menu style works well). Over time, as your interior pages gain PR, they'll lend some of it back to your main pages. It's not a big boost, but depending on how many pages you have in total, it helps.

I would say 100 links to a new site should put you into sandbox, especially if you get 100 in first few months and much less next few months.

Less that 10 links from PR3 sites is enough to get PR2, in my experience, but of course under condition that these sites haven't too many outbound links.

It isn't unusual for amateur sites on fairly obscure topics to have a PR5 or better home page with less than a dozen links. PR is more a matter of the PR of the pages that link to you, and not the quantity.

I have a site that got PR 6 from a link in the Yahoo Directory (albeit a high one). So, way less than 100 links are needed if they're the right ones. Getting decent PR seems a lot less difficult to me than getting traffic....

Thanx for all the replies! I think I've got an idea... though links to the sites that have pr0 still is the thing that troubles me. The issue is about leaking of my future PR after the next update. Is it grounded or not?
