Google cache of old index listed as supplemental and PR lowered.

A web biz partner of mine has a site that has mostly PR 3 pages, but her homepage has a PR of 2. I found an older index.htm listed in google that was called a 'supplemental result'- her new homepage is index.html.
This is the only irregularity I've found to explain the PR downgrade.
Would a 301 redirect from the old to the new fix this?
