dropped out of index, not PR

site used to be PR 3 and now is not even indexed

Hi all,
what can trigger this scenario? A couple of months ago my site varied between PR2 and PR3. Also it was in the index and was found when entering www.mysite.com in the search field. Some weeks though it was not found through that search but I understand there was some fluctuation going on in Google at the time.

Now, after not checking for two months or so, I suddenly find my site has NO PR anymore, just a gray bar.
Also, the search for www.mysite.com does not yield any results.

I get plenty of results when I do a search for site:www.mysite.com. All pages are listed and the bot has been around. Pages have been cached from 3 days ago to 6 weeks ago. All there.

So why is my site no longer in the index?

How does this come about and what can I do to get it back? Re-submit? The bot is already coming my way. Stunned

Suggestions welcome. Also welcome are stories of your frustration about similar situations. I am not a full time webmaster, so I am often pretty phased out at the non-logic of things.
