80 links in one day

is getting 80 links in one day considered spam?

Yesterday I've placed 80 links to my site,is this considered as spam to Google?. will I end up in the sandbox or penalized for that?

I read about artificial behaviour?. what is meant by this?.

80 links in a day will surely show up as SPAM to Google.

Unless of course you are getting 80 links a day, every day for the next 6 months. Then it will look like you have high quality and popular site.

I am NO seo, but I do have common sense I hope, so unless you have actual evidence of either of the above, please (imo) do NOT mislead folks with 1 or both of the above statements.

Are all those incoming links originating from sites you control?
Are all the links coming from sites using the same host?
Are all the sites registered to the same owner?
Is there cross linking going on?

You get the idea ...

Do they all have the same Anchor text?
Do they have anything in common?
Do they all have the same descriptions?

Google showed the evidence in their patent, but sure, no one outside Google is going to easily demonstrate it with out a lot of time and some money.

As for common sense, I think it is obvious that a site with a large spike in link growth followed by no link growth at all could be easily perceived as undesirable for the serps but that a site with a steadily growing link count over the long term is going to be perceived as a legitimate site. Google has both the processing power and data to do such a datamining operation. They also have publicly stated the idea. Even if they are not doing it now, nothing stops them doing it next week or next year using data that could be years old.

Common sense says spread your link gains out steadily over the long term. If i'm wrong you lose very little, if you're wrong you lose any decent position in Google.

Actually the patent also mentioned sites which spike for natural reasons like sites for a particular event or news story, or a fad.

We often add 300 links a day to any particular site with no adverse effects.

Well actually they are all coming form the same forum somewhere. I've changed my profile and didn't see
that all my respnonses got that profile at once..
These pages are all indexed well by Ggle, even the older topics..

I just seldom look at older topics. Maybey I should rechange my profile before google got there?. I'm
afraid I'm a little late here..

80 links from one forum i.e. one site, are treated very differently to 80 links from 80 different sites. I wouldnt be too worried about 80 links from one forum being considered spam, although it might look like a 'link block' i.e. a link which appears across multiple pages on a site which has been purchased to boost pagerank. I have read a lot of posts by people claiming that kind of thing is being penalised. Also check the HTML source of the forum pages. Many forums use the rel="nofollow" attribute on links, which would annihilate any link popularity benefits from placing the link, though you may still get the odd human clicking on it.

Good point, however pages worth having backlinks on, for instance, high PR start pages of popular websites, are crawled at least daily. But it's rather difficult to get 80 backlinks from _such_ pages in one day :))

That last bit of information by simmen is essential IMO --I find it hard to imagine that you could get hurt by putting a link in your sig (which would then show up in all posts you've made in that forum).

However, I had never considered what might happen if you change your sig. Your 30,000 posts have been made over a long period, so the link pop for site A has grown over time (if indeed the links are all counted!); but now --poof!-- they all point to site B?!? Interesting...

--Nah, G is smart enough to know these things happen!

Ok thanks I'm a little releaved about it now, I won't remove the links from my profile (sig) and will see what happends..

Like I sayed earlier the pages of that forum ara all indexed well,also are the links coming from it..

I double checked it using the profile links of somebody else at that forum in Google (you know link:www.domname.com ) and they all show up there..

But the others have build these links during quit a long time and I did it all at once..

I still feel like a gambler here, but without taking a risk now and then, life gets more exiting doesn't it..

technically, getting any amount of links is spam. People are supposed to link you, not ask, pay or exchange things for links.

Either way,
80 links is defintely spam, unless you're MSN and already get 1800 links a day :-)
