Hi All

Would having one site for desktop and one for mobile using a SaaS solution like <snip> create duplicate content issues? As the mobile site would be hosted on the SaaS providers URL would we still maintain rankings in mobile SERPs provided the mobile solution is deemed mobile friendly?

Welcome to WebmasterWorld, tal84!

This is a very interesting question and it would be good to find out a bit more without naming the SaaS solution provider.

  • Would your SaaS mobile solution have the ability to add canonical link element to each of the mobile pages pointing to your desktop site?
  • Would your desktop site have rel alternate link element pointing to URL on the SaaS solution?
  • How would the URL host look like on the SaaS solution? I mean is there a possibility that more than one mobile solution "live" on the same (sub)domain the SaaS is served from?

I'm waiting to hear back about the first two points regarding canonical and alternate link elements from our SaaS solution provider.

In terms of the URL structure it would look like this.

Desktop site homepage URL - www.example-client.com
SaaS mobile homepage URL - www.SaaS-provider.com/example-client.homepage

With the above structure, would canonical and alternate link elements work?
